The tram is another comfortable and characteristic mode of transport that provides tourists with a perhaps more attractive option, given that you can see much of the city during your trip. That being said, you have to approach your tram journey with calm nerves and lots of patience since finding a seat - especially during rush hour - can be quite a challenge.

Piazza dei Cinquecento, Termini Station, Largo di Torre Argentina and Piazza Venezia are some of the key places where the city's bus and tram routes begin and end. Although you have many options, the following are some of the most highly recommendable routes when it comes to discovering the city by public transport.

H: Begins and ends at Termini Station and stops at Via Nazionale, Piazza Venezia and Viale Trastevere, to name a few. Ideal for getting into the centre while enjoying a trip through the suburbs.

64: The classic route to the Vatican, leaving you right next to Piazza San Pietro. Given its route, which also begins at Termini Station, it tends to be quite busy. It also stops on Via Nazionale, Piazza Venezia, Largo Argentina, Chiesa Nuova and the areas surrounding the Castel Sant'Angelo.

175: A good option to get to Via del Corso, Teatro di Marcello and Aventino.

170: A complete route that runs from Termini Station to Piazzale dell'Agricoltura, going from Via Nazionale, Piazza Venezia, Via del Teatro di Marcello and Bocca della Verità to Testaccio and EUR, already part of the Roman suburbs.

714: Perfect option for tourists and locals alike who want to cross the city. Some of the most interesting spots along this route are Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore, Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano and the Termas di Caracalla. The route begins at Termini Station and ends at Piazzale Nervi.
